CHILDHOOD
"xxx" ________________ Scott Hurley Campbell was born in Austin, Texas, to a middle-class family. Mother, a beautiful soul, striving to give her son a respectable upbringing, despite her husband spending most of his time in the military. Rarely home, she had to raise Scott alone while working a job on the side. It was not an easy task, but she did what was necessary for her child. Though Scott hardly ever spoke to his dad, he considered him a hero and a role model. He noted how his father was praised by the public and received medals for his duty. The way the public painted him out to be a hero greatly influenced Scott's perception of the said father. He regarded him as someone who made a difference in the world, and while that may have been the case in public, things looked quite different at home. One night when his father came home to visit, everything changed. It was late, and Scott could not sleep, so he sought comfort in his mother's warm presence. [to be continued] Scott was a complicated and somewhat misunderstood kid. Though he was fortunate enough to inherit nearly all of his personality traits from his mother; kindness, forgiveness, and openness, his father’s temper also ran cold in his blood. His newfound temper caused him trouble at school because he seemed like an easy target to bully with his reserved demeanor and lean figure, but looks can be deceiving. [to be continued] Later... To alleviate the physical and mental pain from his traumatic experience in Afghanistan, he chose to seek refuge in alcohol. At first, it was nothing but a shortcut, a temporary break from the chronic pain, but it slowly evolved into an addiction. Suddenly he went from drinking once a week to once every other day, and without even noticing, he began drinking every day. [to be continued] - Scott's father was an Air Force pilot in the military and he desperately wanted his son to pursue the same career. - When Scott was a kid, he always looked up to his father and considered him a role model. That changed because xxx - Scott was excellent in school, but his father pressured him into joining the military when he was of age, so he did. - He was a great soldier and fought remarkably, but had to leave the military because of an accident that caused chronic muscle pain. - To distract himself from the pain, he ... something with alcohol. At first it was strictly to ease the pain, but it slowly became an addiction. - After leaving the military, he pursued a career as a professor - he could finally make use of his intelligence. |
